Warburg - What are time and movement of an ellipse?</title><content type='html'>Over the last decades, the thought and work of German art historian Aby M. Warburg (1866-1929) has become the object of multidisciplinary research in different parts of the world. Though the many topics covered by his research would stand as reason enough for the present increasing interest in Warburg, it has been the impact of his original insight into his practice that has steadily stepped forward, especially in what concerns Warburg’s way of connecting  disciplines and epochs, his continual bridge making between Arts, History and Culture in different times (classical antiquity, middle ages, renaissance, modernism) and civilizations (European and Pre-Colombian American eras), more often taken apart due to their distance in time and space.&lt;br /&gt;Based on an anthropological concept of history, and especially on the history of images, Warburg invents (in the sense of heuriskein) its own movement and its own correspondence for forms, gestures, small details and singularities of plastic representations, which gain new meanings in his studies and which can be charted in a process of revitalization as “posthumous life” (Nachleben) of plural meaning, in transfer between what is farthest away from us and what is nearest to us.&lt;br /&gt;Warburg argues for a concept of history that resorts to memory theory as a social and collective project, and he understands and analyses the history of art as a link between discontinuities. Viewing art as the space that allows both for the fixation and the non-fixation of movement, Warburg claims that art should thus enable that the creation of distance between the artist, the observer and the outer world takes place as a form of awareness of a double unstoppable movement between complementary areas of knowledge.&lt;br /&gt;The core of his studies was steadily amplified, as Warburg went on researching and setting up guidelines for others to establish links between the study fields, which he contemplated systematically, such as classical antiquity, anthropology, architecture, library and documental sciences, cultural sciences, dance, aesthetics and philosophy of art, ethnology, philosophy of language, photography, history, history of art, history of religion, iconology, image and communication, memory, mythology, psychology, psychiatry, symbology, sociology, cultural theory.&lt;br /&gt;As a result of our own understanding of art and culture, in the line of Warburg’s thought, we have decided to take the ellipse as the aggregating methodological image, as it opens onto the perception of the world and the reconfiguration of its memory, exactly the contemplated goals for the conference that we here present. The conference will hopefully summon the concurrent voices, methods, procedures and routes that have marked the scientific project of the German scholar in his dialogue with his contemporaries and his forerunners planting seeds for posterity.&lt;br /&gt;We announce an International and Interdisciplinary Conference, on the thought and work of Aby M. Warburg - Was sind Zeit und Bewegung einer Elipse?</title><content type='html'>Das Denken und Werk des deutschen Kunsthistorikers Aby M. Warburg (1866-1929) ist in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten zum Objekt pluridisziplinärer Forschung in verschiedenen Erdteilen geworden. Das Interesse vollzieht sich dabei nicht so sehr entlang der vielen Schaffens- und Reflektionsbereiche, denen sich Warbung gewidmet hat, sondern richtet sich vor allem auf die Art und Weise, wie der deutsche Intellektuelle so originell Verknüpfungen geschaffen hat zwischen der Kunst, Geschichte und Kultur von Epochen (Klassischer Antike, Mittelalter, Renaissance, Moderne) und Zivilisationen (europäischer und altamerikanischer), die zeitlich wie räumlich weit voneinander entfernt liegen.&lt;br /&gt;Von einer anthropologischen Geschichtsauffassung ausgehend, insbesondere von der Geschichte der Bilder, erfindet Warburg - im Sinne von heuriskein - Bewegung und Korrespondenzen für Formen, Gesten, kleine Details und Einzelheiten in Abbildungen, die durch sein Studium neue Bedeutung erhalten, und die wir in einem Wiederauflebungsprozess als „Nachleben“ zusammenfassen können, mit vielfältiger Bedeutung, unterwegs zwischen dem, was am weitesten entfernt liegt und dem, was uns umgibt.&lt;br /&gt;Als Verfechter eines Geschichtskonzepts, das von einer Erinnerungstheorie als soziales und kollektives Projekt ausgeht, versteht und analysiert Warburg die Kunstgeschichte als Verknüpfungspunkt zwischen Diskontinuitäten; wobei er die Kunst als denjenigen Raum betrachtet, der zur gleichen Zeit Fixierung und Nichtfixierung von Bewegung ist, und von wo aus, seiner Auffassung nach, sich die Distanzbildung zwischen Künstler, Betrachter und äußerer Welt vollzieht, im Bewusstsein über diese doppelte und unaufhaltsame Bewegung und den komplementären Wissensbereichen.&lt;br /&gt;Die Notwendigkeit der Sachkenntnis in den einzelnen Bereichen wuchs stetig, in dem Maße da Warburg zunehmend Forschung betrieb und Konditionen schuf, damit auch andere Forscher Verknüpfungspunkte bilden konnten. Sein Studienprojekt beschäftigte sich systematisch mit: Anthropologie, Architektur, Astrologie, Ästhetik und Kunstphilosophie, Bibliotheken und Dokumentforschung, Bild und Kommunikation, Erinnerung, Ethnologie, Geschichte, Ikonologie, Klassischer Antike, Kulturtheorie, Kulturwissenschaften, Kunstgeschichte, Mythologie, Photographie, Psychiatrie, Psychologie, Religionsgeschichte, Soziologie, Sprachphilosophie, Symbologie, Tanz.&lt;br /&gt;In dem Prozess des Kunst- und Kulturvestehens nach Warburg haben wir ein verbindendes methodologisches Bild gefunden, das gleichzeitig offen ist für die Wahrnehmung der Welt und die Neugestaltung seiner Erinnerung: die Ellipse. Wir möchten die Durchführung einer Konferenz vorschlagen, mittels der es möglich wäre, die simultanen Stimmen, Mittel und Wege zusammenzuberufen, die das wissenschaftliche Projekt des deutschen Gelehrten geprägt haben: den Dialog sowohl mit seinen Zeitgenossen, wie mit denen die vor ihm waren, und die den Samen gelegt haben für die heutige Zeit.&lt;br /&gt;Wir schlagen die Durchführung einer internationalen und transdisziplinären Konferenz vor, die sich dem Denken und Werk Aby M. Warburgs widmet, mit dem Titel: Was sind Zeit und Bewegung einer Ellipse?&lt;br /&gt;Die Konferenz wird am 15. und 16. Warburg - Qual o tempo e o movimento de uma elipse?</title><content type='html'>&lt;div&gt;O pensamento e a obra do historiador de arte alemão Aby M. Warburg (1866-1929) têm-se constituído, nas últimas décadas, como objecto de investigação pluridisciplinar em várias partes do mundo. Decorre esse interesse não tanto das muitas áreas de trabalho e reflexão que ocuparam Warburg (elas manifestavam entre si uma predisposição natural para a aproximação e criação de sentidos afins), mas principalmente do modo como o intelectual alemão, de forma tão original, criou nexos entre arte, história e cultura de épocas entre si distanciadas no tempo e no espaço (Antiguidade Clássica, Idade Média, Renascimento, Modernidade) e entre civilizações (europeia e americana pré-colombiana).&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Socorrendo-se de uma concepção antropológica da História e, em particular, da história das imagens, Warburg inventa (no sentido de heuriskein) movimento e correspondência para formas, gestos, pequenos detalhes e singularidades de representações plásticas que adquirem com o seu estudo novas significações e que podemos enquadrar num processo de revivificação como “vida póstuma” (Nachleben) de significado plural, em trânsito entre o que mais distante se encontra de nós e aquilo que nos circunda.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Defensor de um conceito de História que recorre a uma teoria da memória enquanto projecto social e colectivo, Warburg compreende e analisa a História de Arte na perspectiva de ligação entre descontinuidades, entendendo a arte como aquele espaço que é ao mesmo tempo fixação e não-fixação de movimento, e a partir do qual a criação de distância entre quem cria, quem observa e o mundo exterior se deveria processar, na sua perspectiva, como consciência de um duplo movimento imparável e também entre áreas complementares de conhecimento.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;A essencialidade do conhecimento nessas áreas foi sendo cada vez mais amplificada, à medida que Warburg produzia investigação e criava condições para que outros pudessem estabelecer também nexo entre elas. O seu projecto de estudo contemplou com sistematicidade: Antiguidade Clássica, Antropologia, Arquitectura, Astrologia, Bibliotecas e Ciências Documentais , Ciências da Cultura, Dança, Estética e Filosofia da Arte, Etnologia, Filosofia da Linguagem, Fotografia, História, História de Arte, História das Religiões, Iconologia, Imagem e Comunicação, Memória, Mitologia, Psicologia, Psiquiatria, Simbologia, Sociologia, Teoria da Cultura.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Neste processo de entendimento da Arte e da Cultura, segundo Warburg, para o qual encontrámos uma imagem metodológica aglutinadora e ao mesmo tempo expansiva da percepção do mundo e de reconfiguração da sua memória – a elipse –, gostaríamos de propor a realização de um colóquio, através do qual fosse possível convocar a simultaneidade de vozes, meios e percursos que marcaram o projecto científico do erudito alemão, naquele que foi o seu diálogo com contemporâneos, com outros que o precederam, e que deixou semente para o nosso tempo.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Propomos a realização de um Colóquio Internacional e Transdisciplinar, dedicado ao pensamento e à obra de Aby M.
